my very special gift's from Aunt Bonnie

These are the beautiful treasure's my Aunt Bonnie sent me this week-end! I was rendered speechless! They are mostly item's from her Grandmother's sewing box. Can you imagine how lucky and blessed I feel!?! She said the button's are about 60 year's old. Look at the breathtaking lavender button's on the button card. Can't you just picture them on a lavender themed crazy quilt. The scarf and collar are made of German lace by one of her grandmother's neighbor's in the 50's. It has a beautiful weight to it and a gentle sheen. Did you see the sock darner? I have heard of darning sock's but never dreamed there was an actual tool to do it! The" plastic mend " is an item I have never seen before. It is a heavy plastic type material ~ it look's like stabilizer I use for my embroidery machine. Please look carefully at the leather pin cushion resting on the sock darner. It appear's to be quite old ~ maybe homemade. Has anyone seen one like it before? She even included old photo's of my mom, Grama , Uncle Jack and Grandad and other family member's! Aunt Bon-Bon ~ I felt like you sent me part of your heart when you blessed me with these treasure's! From one who love's her Grama to another ~ the fact that they belonged to her and you shared them with me ~ is priceless. I promise to treasure them alway's !!!! Love Alway's, Terri (click on photo's to get a closer look)

new hair color!

I went back to light brown after 3 year's of being a blond. My kid's had an intervention and told me how old they thought I looked with the blond hair! So see guy's ~ Mom does listen to you and IKNOW ~ I KNOW ~ I KNOW ~ this is a bad pic! I just CAN"T take a good pic!!!!!

Detached chain week 3

These are detached chain stitch combined with straight stitch and french knot's ~ I love the ring's of glass. They are very old ~ I wish I could remember where I got them!

"SURPRISE" bead stitch

Step one ~stitch a row of beading. Step two ~ start criss crossing the thread of your choice across the beading. I went over the beading twice with each color . That is a total of 6 passes over the beading. Careful not to pull to tight as you will be cutting thru your thread layer's. Step three ~ you carefully cut thru your layer's of thread straight down the middle. Take your time or you may cut thru your beading thread. (if this happen's don't worry ~ just run new beading thread thru your bead's.) When you have cut thru all your layer's ~ fluff your thread and give it a little "haircut" to even thread's. Isn't it lovely!

Cretan week 4

My Supplies

I have been saving lace, doily's, hanky's and button's since childhood! I LOVE going to all the church fair's ~ they are a GREAT source! I can't resist buying dupioni silk but just get a yard at a time! I also use decorator sample's. Recently my fav place to get silk ribbon and picture's on fabric is Pat Winter's site on etsy! (Patwintergatherings.etsy.com ) When I get that shopping bug in the early am hour's ~ I go right to Pat's site for relief! When I'm in New York City ~ it's Tinsel Trading on West 38th street and all the great bead & button place's nearby! Beadwork's in Providance, R.I. and Norwalk, Ct. are GREAT as well. Prayer's and good luck also help ! Recently I was in a local quilt shop and purchased plastic bag's stuffed with beautiful vintage lace for just 10 cent's a bag!!!(the picture to the right is just a small sampling!) Can you imagine???? I resisted buying it all as I wanted someone else to have the same thrill I was having! But trust me ~ I didn't leave much!

crazy quilted purse

Still is progress ....... so far I have used silk's and vintage lace

Franklin the Fish

Franky saved this fish from a sure death by coming by late October and draining my pond until he found him. Franklin was freezing cold and quite sad looking. This was taken one day after rescue ~ I think he is smiling!

bookmark

a birthday gift for a friend ~ it needed more beading I think but I ran out of time :( It is sideway's ~ the top is the loopy ribbon.

Cancer take this! POW!

I made this wallhanging for a 20 something friend who kicked cancer in the butt. She stared down the cancer right between the eye's so this straight forward design seemed perfect for her.

post card from my etsy site

I used Jane Sassaman's vibrant fabric on this beaded post card.

What will this be? Current project

I am working on this now. I'm not sure what it will be ~ a purse maybe? Look how crooked the lavender ribbon is! Any idea's?

Chearful Flower Pot's

I used very old rinestone 's ~ what I believe to be shoe clip's ~ on this cheerful little quilt. By the way I do these for the pure joy of it and in no way let mistake's get in the way of my fun!!!

Christmas Block finished

Hanky Block finished

Ok ~ I think I'll call this finished!??!!

Flower Basket

I love this vintage look! I used very old button's (the black one's) ~ 100 plus yrs old ~ that I purchased from a woman's estate in Newtonwn, Ct.

Why the name of this blog????

Why Lavender in the Crack's? I am in LOVE with the color and scent of lavender. I put it in almost all my handmade pillow's. and spray it on my pillow EVERY night! When I want to freshen my home ~ I cover all my carpet's and floor's with lavender ~ pushing it in between the crack's of the wood! After it has been walked on all day ~ I vacume it all up but ALWAY"S leave some between the crack's!

Wedding Quilt purchased in India

My friend Dave travel's on bike through the backroad's of India and other place's in the region. He buy's quilt's like this one ~ made from wedding dresses by the woman there. They are so beautiful. E-mail me if you'd like to purchase one. He is there now for a few more week's but I can put you in touch with him when he return's.

Fairfield Beach

My daughter Jaci and I got bored at the beach!

My Garden

Oh how I would like to be a tiny fairy and roll from beautiful petal to beautiful petal ~ soaking up every dew drop along the way .........

Vintage Ornament's

Most of these were family ornament's given to me by my Aunt Shirley and Aunt Sally. I like to imagine each happy christmas past that was reflected on these ornament's :)

From My Etsy Site

I LOVE making these pillow's. This one just crack's me up! (hehe ~ no pun intended!) I have a few off color one's on etsy. TerrisThreadArt.etsy.com

Crazy Patch Pillow

I did this completely on my machine. It was SO much fun but ~ ~ ~ I felt like I was cheating! Not one hand threaded needle entered this cloth!

Cool Crazy Cat

I had this on my etsy site but removed it to show in The Washington Holiday Sale. The fabric's make me smile! I will be putting it back on etsy ~ maybe :) SOLD 3/11/07

Hanky Crazy Block

I later decided this was not finished and added more beading and vintage lace. I'm still not sure if I'm finished but when I am ~ I will post picture!

my christmas block

I later made this into a small pillow. It was featured at The Washington Holiday Sale in Washington Depot,Ct.
