I have been beading and stitching this piece off and on for several year's! It started when I went to outside dining area at Tavern On The Green in NYC and was SO inspired by the chitz lantern's & evergreen animal sculpture's outside with the contrast of the city skyline! It took my breath away! I headed to the fabric store the next day and purchased fabric's that looked like the lantern's.I still have quite a bit of beading and stitching but don't know how to finish it! I was thinking a black border as it need's to "pop" but would LOVE your honest idea's !!!! Thanks SO much! Sorry these pic's aren't better! (double lick for larger ,better view)

Hallo Terri! I am so impressed but your work! If you asked for a opinion, I do not like black, so I can not gave you my opinion over black. What I think it can be nice, to make the border from the same colors as your bloc but in the opposite clockwise! I do not know if I am very clear:)Thank you for visiting my blog!
Hi and thanks for the comment left on my blog - I'm sure my Dad is watching over me. Do you have Photoshop or something similar? I had the same problem with a painting a while back I didn't know what colour to do the background so I photographed it put it into Photoshop, cut out the picture of a tulip and put it onto different background colours until I found the one that worked. It's the one in November 2006 of my blog. Or failing that scan part of the work and print it on to a piece of A4 paper and put it up against the colour you think to see if it works.
Sometimes black can be too strong as a border but navy or bottle green would work just as well.
I think Susan's idea is great.
I like your buttonhole flowers, which remind me of Morning Glory. I think I would lay the block against various colours to find the right 'oomph' shade to set the pale colours off.

Terri, this piece is so delicate and beautiful. I would add a small border using one of the pastels, or perhaps two borders, the inside a thin pastel pink and the outer a thicker pastel green. (Same fabrics used in project)It is hard to say unless you see it in person. Try to lay it on a full piece of black and see how you like it. Then do the same with the pastels. That is what I do. Sometimes I am surprised to see what works best. It sure is pretty.
